Get Vaccinated at PS 20 on Monday, November 8!

Protect our children and community—and also get $100 in the process!

Children 5 and older can receive their first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine at PS 20 this Monday (11/8) from 12-4pm.

The vaccine provider will be Med Rite Lab, and the vaccine is free (no insurance necessary) for everyone (regardless of immigration status). If you get your first dose at an NYC site, the city is providing $100 to you AND if you list the PS20 PTA as a referring org, the school receives $100 per shot!

Here’s all the info you need:

  • This is a regular school day for all students, so please drop off your child at 8:20 AM.

  • No appointment is necessary.

  • Vaccinations will be administered between 12:00- 4:00PM only.  A parent or guardian is required to accompany each child while they are being vaccinated.

  • Parent sign in begins at 12:00PM at our main entrance at 225 Adelphi Street. You will be required to show photo ID and sign in.

  • A staff member will call the classroom for your child and you will be with your child as they are vaccinated.

  • Parents or guardians will be asked to wait with your child for about 15 minutes post vaccination, then your child can return to class or you can sign your child out for the rest of the day.

  • To alleviate congestion at our main entrance around and during dismissal time 2:40 PM,  we are asking that parents and guardians wait until all of the classes are dismissed.

  • Following dismissal, you will be able to sign into the building and accompany your child to the vaccination room.

  • In general, when registering for your or your family member's vaccination appointment using the NYC Appointment Scheduler please list “PS20 PTA” (no spaces in PS20, or it won’t show up!) as the organization that referred you! The PS 20 PTA can receive $100 per referral up to $20,000 through the City's NYC Vaccine Referral Bonus Initiative. Getting vaccinated not only helps keep our community safe and healthy, but can also help fund important school programs like our PTA School Assistants, Green Arts, outdoor learning and STEAM!

Frequently Asked Questions

Can members of the community get the vaccine at my pop-up vaccination site?

  • Only students ages 5-11 can obtain the first dose of the vaccine at the pop-up site.  Anyone age 12 and up can visit vaccinefinder.nyc.gov to choose from hundreds of sites across the city offering appointments or walk-up vaccines at no cost.

Will the provider return to the school for the second dose?

  • No. The provider will refer families to a local vaccine site for students to receive their second dose.

  • All necessary paperwork will be given to the parent/client at the time of first dose.

How does the provider obtain consent?

  • Students ages 5-11 must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian, or by an adult designated by the parent or guardian, while receiving their vaccine. This requirement is outlined in the Vaccine Family Letter and schools should accommodate parent and guardian admission to the vaccine site to accompany their student.

  • If the student is accompanied by an adult who is not the parent or guardian, the vaccine provider must obtain verbal consent from the parent or guardian by phone at the time of vaccination.

  • There is no consent form option for vaccination of students ages 5-11, as they must be accompanied by the parent, legal guardian, or adult designated by the parent or guardian at the time of vaccination.

Does the parent/guardian need to fill out the visitor screening in order to enter the building?

  • Yes, the parent/guardian accompanying the student to the vaccination site should adhere to the DOE’s Visitor Policy and Protocol for Visitors.

  • Any individual accompanying their child to get vaccinated against COVID-19 at a DOE vaccine site is not required to show proof of vaccination in order to enter the building for this purpose. Please inform your School Safety Agent of this visitor vaccine mandate exemption.

Join Us September 2: Back-to-School Virtual PTA Meeting with Principal Barbera

As we get closer to school reopening, we understand that you have many questions and concerns about the 2021-2022 school year. Last week, the Mayor and Chancellor Porter announced updated health and safety measures for NYC public schools. We have posted a summary of the health and safety measures below. For the most part, the measures are similar to the end of last year—masking, physical distancing, pick-up and drop-off outside of the school building and regular COVID testing. Ms. Barbera and her team are working diligently to prepare for the coming school year.

We would like to invite you to a school-wide Back to School Virtual PTA Meeting with Ms. Barbera this Thursday, September 2nd from 6:00-7:30pm, so Ms. Barbera can take the school community through what the coming school year will look like and answer your questions. Information for the meeting is posted below.

One other update we would like to provide is that this year, PS 20 will be going back to its normal school schedule, meaning drop-off will be at 8:20am and pick-up at 2:40pm. One change will be that 3-K and Pre-K will start and end ten minutes earlier (8:10am drop-off and 2:30pm pick-up) in order to allow our little ones get to and from their classrooms before the big rush.

Since school health and safety policies and procedures are still being finalized by the DOE, and Ms. Barbera and her team are still working on how implement these policies and procedures at PS 20, we wanted to let you know that the PTA will be working with Ms. Barbera to provide regular updates via our website, Konstella (if you haven’t signed up yet please do!), and our Instagram account. You can also check out the NYC DOE link for updates. Thank you for your patience.

We look forward to a safe, healthy, and happy school year.

Sincerely,

The PS 20 PTA Board

Summary of 2020-2021 NYC public school safety measures:

Physical distancing: The DOE will follow the CDC recommendation to maintain at least 3 feet between students within classrooms. When it is not possible to maintain 3 feet in a given school, the DOE advises layering multiple other prevention strategies. During meal service, schools will use outdoor spaces and additional spaces in school buildings where possible.

COVID-19 testing in schools: Every school will have 10 percent of unvaccinated individuals who have submitted consent for testing in their school population tested biweekly. Students and staff who are fully vaccinated are not required to be tested.

Positive cases of COVID-19 in elementary schools: If there is a positive case in a classroom, all students in the class will be instructed to quarantine for 10 calendar days.

Vaccine mandate for all DOE employees: All Department of Education employees must have received at least one dose of a coronavirus vaccine by September 27.

June 11: $5K FOR PS 20!

Dear PS20 Families,

The PTA is hosting our 1st annual $5K for PS 20 social justice benefit run at Fort Greene Park on June 11, 2021. Our goal is to raise $5,000 for the PTA's Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Fund. This marathon-style fundraiser will be led by the Founder of Define New York Run Club and Co-Founder of Running to Protest, activist and runner, and PS 20 parent of three, Coffey. Students will participate by raising money and awareness for causes focused on racial equality, gender equality, inclusivity. All proceeds from the race will benefit the PTA supported Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Fund.

In the wake of the murder of George Floyd, the PS 20 PTA renewed its commitment to addressing the social injustice by creating a fund within the PTA budget dedicated to diversity, equity and inclusion work. These funds are a valuable resource that allows the PTA to do everything from conducting workshops to covering field trips for families that may be experiencing economic challenges. This work is particularly timely given that PS 20 was recently designated as a Diversity In Admissions Initiative school.

Please see Konstella for scheduling and other details.

STUDENTS WILL RUN IN SUPPORT OF MARGINALIZED GROUPS FOR CAUSES SUCH AS:

Anti-Racism - Police Brutality - Food Insecurities - Body Shaming - Women's Rights - LGBTQ Rights - Mental Health - Affordable Housing/Homelessness - Healthcare Inequality - Educational Equity & Equality -  Inclusion of People with Disabilities
