This committee helps to organize the many afterschool programs and activities in and around PS20—from visual arts programs to dance and gymnastics lessons. The committee will help to keep an updated list of local afterschool programs on ps20.org and work to facilitate program pick-ups from the school and/or special offers for PS 20 families.

Anyone interested in improving communication with the broader school community!

We help organize and support PS 20 events from Movie Nights to Parents’ Night Out. Our main focus is on parent community events, but we also support school events like the Holiday Concert and the Brotherhood Dinner, as well as fundraising events like the Social Justice Run.
-
Now that our community is increasingly back inside the building, there’s a huge opportunity to coordinate structural improvements and beautify PS20. Working with our facilities and custodial staff, this committee will focus on advocating for city budget allocations, increasing accessibility, working on how to execute hybrid virtual and in-person events, and expanding outdoor learning opportunities.
-
We organize events and opportunities throughout the year to help fund school and PTA programs. Last year the committee raised $100,000 for the school, and we need help to do it again this year!
We are seeking parents who want to support PS20 fundraising efforts with creative ideas and enthusiasm for rallying our community to meet our ambitious goals.

Green Arts is an interdisciplinary hands-on educational approach that broadens students’ thinking and problem-solving abilities. We employ art and gardening/sustainability teachers who work with all grades and classes throughout the school week. We host beehives on the school roof, and collaborate with local institutions such as Fort Greene Park.

The PS20 International Families Committee holds monthly events to celebrate our cultural diversity and works to support immigrant families throughout their school experience in NY. We are part of our school's Justice, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (JEDI) Committee. Please join our Konstella group to learn about our activities and help organize events throughout the year.

The Community Support and Service Committee is a new subcommittee of JEDI, and as such, will work towards enhancing the culture of JEDI at PS20, with the goal of ensuring that all students and their families have their basic material needs met. Our work will encourage sustainability and broad community participation in giving and receiving.
Initial efforts will be directed towards
1) the creation and maintenance of a "Community Closet", which will be stocked with items available to all students and their families who have need for them, and
2) towards organizing specific efforts in response to the needs of the community, such as donation drives and sharing resources. The Community Support and Service Committee aims to be responsive to the needs of the community and inclusive of all families who want support. -
Help us clean up, organize, and beautify the PS20 Library to enrich our students' experience at PS20 and improve access to amazing books for all PS20 students!

Movie Night Committee helps the PTA produce our fun-for-the-whole family monthly outdoor movie nights in the schoolyard!
We work in shifts to set up audio/visual equipment in the front, and refreshments in the back.
In our commitment to sustainability, we encourage precycling and BYO reusable beverage containers, plates, forks, and napkins. We avoid single-use plastics.
AND ... we have a good time working together! :)

Pre-Covid, the STEAM committee organized everything from a science fair-style "STEAM Night" to fun ad-hoc STEAM activities and games; and during Covid the committee worked to establish a relationship with local astronomy groups to organize astronomy night outings.
For 2022-23, STEAM has some funding allocated in the PTA budget, but the committee lead has decided to take a step back and so we're now looking for new leadership.

This is a new committee for 2022-23, with the goal of helping to organize ongoing teacher + staff support, as well as appreciation events throughout the school year for our amazing PS20 staff, in particular Teacher Appreciation Day in May!
