PS20 Annual Brotherhood Celebration

The Brotherhood Celebration at PS20 was started almost 20 years ago during Black History Month to promote family, unity, community, and to celebrate the African diaspora. By gathering together for a shared meal, Brotherhood honors the diversity of our community and helps us to understand each other better as we work on achieving the same goals for all of our children.

Students and staff will showcase their tributes to Black History and Brotherhood through wonderful performances (lower grades in their classrooms and upper grades in the Auditorium), thoughtful class presentations, poems and visual art throughout the school. Join the school community for food and communion in the Cafeteria. All are welcome to bring dishes to share!

OVERVIEW

  • Food available in Cafeteria (8:30am - 11:00am)

    • Thanks to all the PS20 families who volunteered to bring in yummy nourishment & drinks for the students!

    • Breakfast tacos=from King David Tacos

    • Caribbean patties and Coco bread from Kingston Bakery

  • Guests are invited to view the various works by students in 3K through Grade 5 in the respective hallways created during the Studio in a School residencies. This program is entirely funded by the PS20 PTA — your donation will help keep our art program strong!

STUDENT PRESENTATIONS

  • 8:30am - 9:00am | Displays & brief performances by 3K + Pre-K in respective classrooms and hallways (displays can be viewed until 11:00am)

  • 8:40am | Kindergarten Performance in Auditorium

  • 8:50am | Grade 1 Performance in Auditorium

  • 9:00am | Collaborative performance by Grades 5 and PS20 Band in Auditorium

  • 9:30pm | 10-min intermission

  • 9:40am | Grade 3 Performance in Auditorium

  • 10:00am | Grade 2 Performance in Auditorium

  • 10:20am | Grade 4 Performance in Auditorium
