FRENCH DUAL LANGUAGE PROGRAM
The French Dual Language Program (DLP) starts in Kindergarten. We encourage all families to apply. Your child does not need to speak French to be accepted into the program in Kindergarten. The goal is for students to be able to read, write, and speak in both English and French. An ideal class is composed of an equal number of Anglophone and Francophone children with some seats set aside for Francophones who are also English Language Learners. After Kindergarten, only native speakers and those transferring from another DLP can join the program.
The kindergarten application period for the 2025-26 school year will open December 10th. We are a participant in the Diversity in Admissions initiative that sets aside 40% of the seats for low-income families or those in temporary housing.
Initial offers are made by the NYC Department of Education and not PS20 and are based upon a childβs language fluency and position on the priority list below:
Children who live in the zone with a sibling at PS 20.
